IT IS BUILT IN THE AREA OF THE HISTORICAL CENTER OF ARNESANO, A COUNTRY OF THE PROVINCE OF LECCE, SITUATED IN THE VALLE DELLA CUPA. Historic symbol of Arnesano and the Marchesale palace, built by the Marescallo family in the 17th century, was modified and enlarged in 1684 by the feudal lord Prato. Originally, before the construction of the palace, a fortress existed of which only a tower remains which controlled one of the access gates to the historic center, Porta Rande. Until 1802 the building housed a precious picture gallery. In fact, following a telluric phenomenon that caused the collapse of some rooms of the palace, the collection of paintings was partly destroyed and partly transported to Venice, Rome and Naples to the stately homes of friends of the Marquis Nicolò Prato. The only paintings left in Arnesano are the four present in the chapel of the Asilo Bernardini. Today it is possible to visit it internally to admire the beautiful frescoes. Also you can visit the churches including "The Mother Church", dedicated to Maria SS. Assunta (1581). Finally, just 7 km you can visit the splendid city of Lecce called "the Florence of the South". During the summer period numerous festivals and musical events take place both in Arnesano and in the neighboring countries where you can taste the delicious local products.
