The city of Lecce is famous for its wonderful Baroque architecture as well as its Roman ruins. It is a jewel of a city and well worth a visit. Not only for its long history but also for its excellent food and good shopping.
For a wide range of local produce, the twice-weekly market in Lecce (25 minutes) is a treasure trove of the finest regional produce from fish, vegetables and fruit to olive oil and cheese.
